Brown & James Principal Joseph R. Swift Elected to ALFA International Board of Directors

Joseph R. Swift, principal and shareholder with Brown & James, P.C., has recently been elected to the board of directors of ALFA International, a global legal network of independent law firms. Nominated by ALFA International’s nominating committee in September, Swift and four other board members were elected by ALFA membership at their annual business meeting, held Oct. 21-23, 2010, in Atlanta. ALFA International is one of the oldest and largest legal networks, comprised of 145 member law firms, with only one firm representing a major metropolitan area. Brown & James serves as the ALFA law firm for the St. Louis area.
“Joe has long been an active voice within ALFA,” said Mike Ward, managing principal at Brown & James. “ALFA is a valuable asset for our lawyers and our clients. Joe will undoubtedly provide outstanding leadership as ALFA makes future plans to promote the interests of its member law firms and its members’ clients.”
Swift will serve a three-year term as board member, effective immediately. He currently serves as an ALFA representative contact partner for Brown & James and is a member of ALFA’s Professional Liability practice group, and steering committee member of ALFA’s Product Liability and Transportation practice groups. The board of directors is comprised of 15 members, whose duties include establishing policies, annually recommending the organization’s budget, approving applications for membership, and supervising the work of the CEO.
Swift has spent his entire 23-year career with Brown & James and practices in the firm’s Insurance Law, Premises & Retail Liability, Product Liability and Transportation practice groups. He holds a J.D. from Creighton University and B.A. from Luther College.
